He keeps me company
while I drink my coffee,
while I work,
while I garden.
He is attentive
and I Know That It’s Love.
He entertains me
with hilarious outbursts,
when he sees something he likes
or finds something new.
He is goofy
and I Know That It’s Love.
He freezes around unknown objects,
frightened by plastic bags,
restless with thunder.
He is cautious
and I Know That It’s Love.
He smacks his lips,
yawns loudly and whines,
scattering fur on floors.
He is a little bit annoying
and I Know That It’s Love.
He walks with me,
alert for bunnies and birds,
marking each tree.
He is active
and I Know That It’s Love.
He greets me in the kitchen
with ears pinned back
and a tentative tail wag.
He is he and we are we,
and I Know That It’s Love.
Sweet….
I don’t want to project, but…I would argue that could be either your husband OR your dog 🙂
The first two parts of the poem were intentionally overlapping with similar personality traits to make you wonder exactly that. I am proud to report that my husband is not afraid of plastic bags, does not mark trees on our walks and actually greets me more enthusiastically than the dog.
